I’ve always been a firm believer that you should take the opportunities life throws at you. From starting Resident back in 2015 in a shipping container at Pop Brixton whilst still working a day job, to taking a risk and moving to Somerset a year later where we’ve been ever since in our live/work setup on the high street of Catherine Hill, we’ve taken some chances and had the most amazing time because of it.
I’ve absolutely loved living and working in such a great community here in Frome and am so grateful for the amazing people that have supported us over the past 4 ½ years (fellow shopkeepers and customers alike), but this year gave us an opportunity to reflect and re-evaluate, not just our business and plans for the future (factoring in a post-Covid retail climate), but also on a more personal level too.
The desire to move out of the centre of town, get a little bit more green space and generally enjoy a slower pace of life has been gnawing away for some time now, so when an opportunity came up to move out of town into what we think will be our dream home we just couldn’t say no.
As you may have guessed, this is all a very long-winded way of saying that we’ve decided to sell our little piece of Catherine Hill and close our store at the end of November. Don’t worry, though - we’re continuing online! That means all the beautiful pieces you can find in our store will still be available through our website, and we’ll be introducing more newness over the coming months with some extra special gift edits for Christmas. Moving completely online will, in a funny way, free us up to do more and offer more to customers too. Expect to see more furniture, more home and interiors products and we’ll continue to showcase the smaller designers and makers that we love too.
We’re not completely turning our back on physical retail, and will always be keeping half an eye on spaces that we may call home again at some point in the future, but for now we’ll be purely an online store which is something we’re really excited about.
That does mean there’ll be no big closing-down sale (sorry!), but there will be some ex-display bargains to be had, so make sure you follow us on Insta to catch those deals over the coming weeks. Our official last day was supposed to be some time at the end of November, but given the latest announcement on restrictions for retail, we’ve had to bring that forward to Wednesday 4th November.
Thank you all so much for your support over the last 4 ½ years, for all the amazing people we’ve met, the friendships we’ve forged, the events we’ve hosted and generally to Frome for being such an amazing place to run an indie business. As the title suggests, this is very much TTFN, not goodbye.
